Books, Bonnets and Ballgowns Icon

Commissioned by my friend Emma the goal was to create a piece to give a face to her bookstagram.
It needed to tie together the account's primary feature of romance novels, Emma's love of period piece literature and be recognizable/readable at a small scale. We considered a design that highlighted the ballgown aspect of the account name and a design that focused on the bonnet aspect. In the end, the bonnet won the day.

Final Version - despite the fact this one isn't wearing a ball gown Emma ultimately liked it the best. The bonnet makes for a more striking silhouette and is more recognizable at icon size than the ballgown.

Ballgown Version - after realizing I'd dressed the woman in an every day outfit I quickly made a ballgown version. Emma ended up liking the "plain" design better.

Ideation sketch- the only thing that remained the same throughout the design was the hand and book.
